Another great seasons book from Ellen Jackson. Her books are awesome because they teach about the customs, beliefs and practices of the season all over the world, both past and present that have contributed to our celebrations now.

Included are customs from: Mexico, Mayans, Rome, Europe, Native Americans, Russia, Jews (Passover), Iranians (No Ruz), Indians (Holi), Christians (Easter), Africaans and Earth Day.

Near the end is a story about Eostre or Ostara, the Goddess of the Dawn and Springtime and how the customs of Easter came to be. Following that are some activities to do with your kids like crafts and snacks.

An awesome book!

The Summer Solstice by Ellen Jackson

This is by far the best book describing the Solstice I have found yet. Jackson covers all the celebrations and beliefs from around the world that contribute to the Solstice Celebrations today.

Covered in this book is Lithuanian Villagers, North and South Americans, Europeans, Native American Tribes, Ancient Egyptians, Christians, Bohemians, Swaziland, Scandinavia, Sweden, USA and Canada's beliefs and customs. Also the science known behind the sun.

Near the end is a Summer Solstice Story: How Summer Came to the Island People, followed by activities to do with your children like crafts and snacks.

This is an awesome book.

Earth Mother by Ellen Jackson

This book was not written by a Pagan but it could have been. It is an awesome book about Mother Earth (who is depicted as an African American woman in a colourful robe) walking throughout the land helping the earth to do what it always does. Examples:

"Earth Mother gave the beetles shiny jackets,"
"She filled the water holes
and sharpened the thornbushes,"
"She spread spiderweb laces on the grass,"
and other such things.

Along the way, she meets Man, Frog and Mosquito.

A quote from the inside cover (which explains the idea better than me):

" As she meets Man, Frog and Mosquito, they each thank her for nature's bounty
yet can't help but give her advice about making their lives better.
Everyone has an opinion, it seems, and Earth Mother is amused when it becomes
clear that the circle of life is not without a healthy does of cosmic humor."

This is an awesome book that I recommend to own for every Pagan family who believes/honours a Mother Goddess. The Illustrations are beautiful and the text simple yet inspiring.

The second book in the series. Another great novel about a girl living on the planet Azureblue and her quest to find the pieces of her gazing ball. This time Zenda enters a different dimension to learn her lessons and find her musings.
